The Brief
This character-filled double storey red brick home on Orrong Road, Toorak needed an external shading solution for the upper level windows. The brief was to add solar control and privacy to the elevated windows while respecting the heritage character of the existing facade.
The Details
The C80 External Venetian Blind was selected for its clean, low-profile appearance and ability to sit neatly within the existing window openings without overwhelming the original brickwork. Installed in Anthracite Grey, the blinds complement the charcoal window frames and trims that feature throughout the home’s updated facade detailing.
The contrast of dark aluminium venetians against the warm red brick gives the upper level a contemporary edge while remaining sympathetic to the age and character of the building. With motorised operation, the homeowners can adjust light and privacy from inside without any manual intervention – a practical necessity given the height of the upper level windows.
Installation
The upper level installation required an elevated work platform (EWP) to safely access the window openings on the second storey. The C80 units were fixed directly to the brick facade above each window and commissioned on site. Despite the access challenges, the installation was completed cleanly with all fixings and hardware sitting flush against the existing brickwork.
