The Brief

This striking new home in Balwyn required a facade screening solution that would provide privacy to the upper level windows while making a bold architectural statement from the street. The design called for louvres that would span large sections of the upper storey and integrate seamlessly within the white-framed window recesses of the dark cladded facade.

The Details

The Sunbreaker Vertical Louvres were specified across multiple upper level bays of this Balwyn home, filling the full width of each recessed window panel with a dense, rhythmic screen of Anthracite Grey blades. Set against the home’s dark cladding and crisp white panel surrounds, the louvres read as a deliberate architectural feature rather than a purely functional product – which is exactly what this facade demanded.

The scale of the installation is what makes this project stand out. With louvres wrapping across both the left and right upper level sections of the facade, the screening creates a strong horizontal rhythm that ties the whole front elevation together. Privacy is achieved without blocking light, and the warmth of the timber entry door provides a welcome contrast against the dark tones throughout.

Installation

The Sunbreaker Vertical Louvres were installed within the upper level window recesses across multiple bays of the facade, with blades running floor to ceiling within each framed opening. Careful attention was paid to blade spacing and alignment to ensure a consistent, uniform appearance across the full width of the home when viewed from the street.
